A gunman remains at large after raining hellfire on a quiet Scottsdale neighborhood over the weekend near the intersection of Scottsdale Rd. and McKellips Rd.

Scottsdale police chief Joe LeDuc recently defended the city's use of Flock surveillance technology calling Flock, "Probably one of the most important tools we have in law enforcement." Without it, "Our city would be less safe." Without it, "I think we would solve less crimes."

Early Sunday morning, gunfire struck several homes in a residential neighborhood near East Papago Drive, leaving shell casings in the street but causing no reported injuries.

Officers were dispatched to a home in the area of 7300 E. Papago Drive after multiple 911 callers reported hearing gunshots. Upon arrival, police found several shell casings in the street and determined that shots had been fired in the front yard and backyard of the residence as well as in the street nearby. Other nearby homes were also hit by the gunfire, according to the Scottsdale Police Department.

Detectives and officers questioned several people at the primary home and additional residents throughout the neighborhood as they collected evidence and worked to establish a timeline and possible motive. As of the latest available information, no arrests had been announced and no suspect had been publicly identified. Police had not released details on the number of rounds fired, the caliber of the ammunition recovered, the extent of property damage to the affected homes, or whether anyone was inside those homes at the time the shots were fired.

In a statement issued Sunday morning, the department said, “At this time, the shooting appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no known ongoing threat to the community, (other than the gunman who shot up a neighborhood and still remains at large). We ask the public to please avoid the area while officers and detectives continue their investigation.”

The incident occurred in a residential section of Scottsdale. Local reporting has noted that violent crime trends in the city have generally declined in recent years, making episodes of multi-residence gunfire relatively uncommon. No connection has been publicly drawn to other recent shootings in the broader East Valley, and authorities have not indicated any link to gang activity, targeted retaliation, or a larger pattern.

Investigators continue to seek information from the public. Anyone with tips, video, or knowledge of the events surrounding the early Sunday gunfire is encouraged to contact the Scottsdale Police Department. The case remains open, with detectives focused on identifying the person or persons responsible and determining what prompted the shots.
