SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Scottsdale police are continuing to search for the person or people responsible after a rapid burst of gunfire erupted early Sunday morning during a party at a short-term rental home in a south Scottsdale neighborhood, striking multiple nearby residences. No injuries were reported, but the incident has left neighbors shaken and calling for greater accountability over rental properties.

The gunfire began just after 3:30 a.m. Sunday near the 7300 block of East Papago Drive (in the area of Roosevelt and 74th streets). Neighbors described hearing more than 40 shots in roughly 10 seconds; one resident’s audio recording captured the rapid sequence. When officers arrived, they found shell casings in the street and determined that shots had been fired in the rental home’s front yard, backyard, and the street outside. Several surrounding homes were struck by bullets. In one case, a round hit the wall inches above a front window, near where a 5-month-old infant was sleeping inside.

Residents told reporters that roughly 25 people, many appearing to be between ages 16 and 22, fled the property as police arrived. Neighbors said investigators indicated that drugs, alcohol, and firearms were found at the scene. Police remained for hours collecting evidence. As of the latest available reports on Monday and Tuesday, no arrests had been announced, and the suspect or suspects remain at large. Scottsdale police stated they are working to identify those responsible.

Longtime neighbors described the episode as highly unusual for the area. One resident who has lived there since the 1960s called it the first incident of its kind in decades. Others said the short-term rental has repeatedly drawn large parties, noise complaints, and altercations, and some are urging the city to revoke the property’s short-term rental license. “That’s unacceptable,” one neighbor said of the bullets that came so close to a sleeping child.

The investigation remains active. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Scottsdale Police Department. This incident adds to ongoing local discussions about short-term rentals, youth gatherings, and public safety in residential neighborhoods.
