Israel-Hezbollah Clashes Continue in South Lebanon Despite Trump-Brokered Partial Ceasefire; Heated Trump-Netanyahu Call & Iranian “Inevitable War” Warning | 17GEN4 News

BEIRUT / WASHINGTON — Despite a U.S.-brokered partial ceasefire announced just yesterday, fresh clashes erupted overnight and into Tuesday between Israeli forces and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, with both sides accusing the other of violations. The fragile truce, aimed at preventing escalation into Beirut’s southern suburbs, is already under severe strain as President Donald Trump pushes for de-escalation to protect ongoing negotiations with Iran.
Details of the Partial Ceasefire and Ongoing Violence
On June 1, President Trump announced via Truth Social that Israel and Hezbollah had agreed to halt major hostilities following U.S. mediation. The deal includes Israel refraining from striking Beirut’s southern suburbs (Dahiyeh, a Hezbollah stronghold) in exchange for Hezbollah ceasing attacks on Israel. Lebanese officials described it as a limited de-escalation, not a full nationwide truce.
However, fighting continued:
Hezbollah fired rockets toward northern Israel and deployed drones toward IDF positions.
Israeli forces responded with targeted strikes in southern Lebanon, including areas around Nabatieh, killing at least 5–8 people and conducting operations that eliminated Hezbollah operatives preparing attacks. Artillery shelling and air raids hit multiple towns.
Israeli ground operations, which began in March 2026, have pushed deep into Lebanon toward the Zaharani River — the deepest incursion in 25 years — and continue despite the announced pause.
Both sides remain deployed in southern Lebanon, raising doubts about the truce’s durability. U.S.-hosted talks between Israel and Lebanon are underway in Washington today.
Trump’s Heated Call with Netanyahu
Sources describe President Trump’s Monday phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as “heated” and “expletive-laden.” Trump reportedly pressed Netanyahu aggressively to scale back operations, fearing they would derail broader peace efforts with Iran. According to multiple reports, Trump used strong language, including phrases like “What the f--- are you doing?” and reportedly told Netanyahu he was “f---ing crazy,” while reminding him of past U.S. support.
Trump later posted that he had a “very productive” call, stating Israeli troops heading toward Beirut had been turned back and “there will be no Troops going to Beirut.” Netanyahu has maintained that Israel will continue operations against Hezbollah threats in the south.
Trump has emphasized that Iran talks remain “ongoing at a rapid pace,” though he has publicly downplayed their importance at times, saying he “couldn’t care less” if they collapse.
A senior Iranian military officer, Mohammad Jafar Assadi (deputy head of Iran’s central military command, Khatam al-Anbiya), declared Tuesday that renewed war with the United States is “inevitable.” He stated: “The United States demands our total surrender, and the Iranian nation will never surrender. Without surrender, war is inevitable.”
The comments come amid Iranian threats to suspend indirect talks with the U.S. over the Lebanon escalation, which Tehran views as linked to the broader regional conflict. Negotiations involve the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s nuclear program, and proxy issues.
The 2026 Lebanon conflict, part of wider regional tensions including the U.S.-Iran war that began earlier this year, has already caused thousands of deaths. A full ceasefire remains elusive, with Hezbollah demanding Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon and Israel insisting on neutralizing threats.
