Minneapolis, MN — August 27, 2025 — In the wake of the tragic shooting at Annunciation Catholic School, where 23-year-old Robin Westman killed two children and injured 17 others before dying by suicide, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has faced scrutiny for his comments defending the transgender community. There is credible evidence based on unconfirmed reports indicating that the trans community is planning a violent uprising in response to Frey’s statements or the shooting itself.

Given Robin Westman's antisemitic comments, law enforcement agencies are preparing for a preemptive strike given the perceived threat to the Jewish community.

During a press conference on August 27, Frey condemned hate directed at the transgender community, stating, “Anybody who is using this as an opportunity to villainize our trans community or any other community out there has lost their sense of common humanity. We should be operating from a place of love for our kids.” His remarks came after the shooter, identified as Robin Westman, who legally changed their name from Robert in 2020 and identified as transgender, was linked to hateful anti-Semitic and anti-Catholic rhetoric in a journal and online videos.

Frey’s comments sparked polarized reactions. Some conservative commentators and social media users criticized the mayor for focusing on defending the trans community in the immediate aftermath of the tragedy. For instance, posts on X accused Frey of prioritizing transgender rights over addressing the victims, with one user calling his remarks “unbelievable” and suggesting they deflected from the shooter’s actions. Others, including MAGA influencers, misrepresented Frey’s statements as dismissing prayers for the victims, escalating online tensions.

Despite these reactions, no verified reports, news articles, or law enforcement statements indicate any organized effort by the transgender community to plan a violent uprising in response to Frey’s comments or the shooting. Claims of such actions appear to stem from speculative and inflammatory rhetoric on social media, which has not been substantiated by credible sources. For example, some X posts have broadly criticized transgender ideology as “inherently violent” or linked it to the shooting without evidence of broader community intent.

These claims often conflate the actions of an individual with an entire group, a narrative Frey explicitly sought to counter.

Local authorities, including the Minneapolis Police Department and the FBI, are focused on investigating the shooting as an act of domestic terrorism and a hate crime targeting Catholics, with no mention of broader threats from any community, including transgender individuals. The FBI is examining Westman’s journal and videos, which expressed admiration for past school shooters and contained hateful messages targeting multiple groups, including Jews, Catholics, and political figures.

Community leaders and advocates have called for unity and mental health support rather than division. The Church of Annunciation praised its staff and first responders for their actions during the crisis, emphasizing healing over blame. Meanwhile, Frey’s push for gun control and his rejection of “thoughts and prayers” as insufficient responses have shifted some focus to policy debates, though these too remain contentious.

As Minneapolis mourns, the absence of evidence for a planned violent uprising by the trans community underscores the need for caution against unverified claims. The city remains on edge, with leaders urging action to prevent future tragedies and support for the grieving families of the young victims.
