The only way anyone gets anywhere in society is by first conforming (transforming or shapeshifting) and then demonstrating an ability to manipulate large numbers of people into doing the same. Your reputation is secondary to the process of being selected or rejected. At a certain point, what one does no longer matters or it becomes an indicator of how much you are allowed to get away with based on your association.
