On April 20, 2025, a shooting occurred at the Harvard Square MBTA station in Cambridge, Massachusetts, around 2:12 p.m. A man fired four to five shots at a targeted individual on the southbound Red Line platform, according to MBTA Transit Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan. No injuries were reported, and there is no evidence that the targeted individual or anyone else was struck. The suspect, described as wearing a gray hoodie and a ski mask, fled the scene, possibly toward Brattle Square.
Harvard University issued a shelter-in-place order at 2:45 p.m., which was lifted at 3:19 p.m. after the search for the suspect concluded. The MBTA station was closed for nearly three hours, with Red Line service resuming by 5 p.m., though delays of about 15 minutes persisted. As of late Sunday, no suspects were in custody, and the Cambridge Police Department confirmed the investigation remains active. MBTA Transit Police posted a photo on X around 8:30 p.m., seeking public assistance to identify a person of interest, urging anyone with information to contact their Criminal Investigations Unit at 617-222-1050, with the option to remain anonymous.
