Washington, D.C. — December 17, 2025

A fresh controversy erupted at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on Wednesday, with multiple insiders accusing Corey Lewandowski — the longtime Trump advisor and reported romantic partner of Secretary Kristi Noem — of pressuring agency leaders to secure him a federally issued firearm and badge, privileges typically reserved for trained law enforcement officers.

Four whistleblowers told the Daily Mail that Lewandowski, 52, who serves informally as Noem's de facto chief of staff while holding the title of "special government employee," repeatedly sought access to an ICE-issued gun despite lacking the standard qualifications. Sources described his requests as aggressive, including using the issue as a "litmus test" during discussions about appointing a new ICE director.

One insider recounted Lewandowski pressing a top candidate, claiming it was necessary for his protection amid threats. When challenged on the ethics and legality, the source said the demands were deemed "unethical, immoral, and potentially illegal." Another official reportedly involved was later reassigned after the outlet inquired about the incident.

Lewandowski has denied the allegations, accusing Trump's border czar Tom Homan of leaking the story. Noem, 54, who is entitled to a federal firearm as DHS secretary, has not publicly commented on the latest claims.

The revelations revive longstanding rumors of an affair between Noem and Lewandowski, both married to others, which first surfaced in 2023 reports and have been described as Washington, D.C.'s "worst-kept secret." Previous sightings, including Lewandowski leaving Noem's apartment building, fueled speculation, though both have repeatedly denied any improper relationship.

The scandal comes amid broader turmoil at DHS, the agency spearheading President Trump's ambitious mass deportation campaign. Noem has faced intense criticism from Democrats over enforcement tactics, including recent congressional hearings where she was accused of misleading lawmakers on deportations of military veterans. Internal tensions have also mounted, with reports of finger-pointing over lagging deportation numbers and White House frustration with Noem's leadership — partly attributed to Lewandowski's influential role.

DHS officials maintain that under Noem, the department is prioritizing border security and law enforcement. As the Trump administration approaches the one-year mark of its second term, questions swirl about potential cabinet changes, with Noem's position under scrutiny.

The department has yet to respond to requests for comment on the whistleblower claims. This developing story highlights ongoing challenges in balancing aggressive immigration policies with ethical governance at one of the nation's most powerful agencies. 17GEN4
