Six Shot in Midtown Manhattan; Suspect Dead, Number of victims expected to rise...

NEW YORK — A shooting in Midtown Manhattan on Monday evening, July 28, 2025, left at least six people injured, including one New York Police Department (NYPD) officer and two civilians, according to police sources. The suspect, who fled into a corporate office building at 345 Park Avenue, is believed to be dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities confirmed.

The incident occurred outside the building, which houses the offices of Blackstone and the NFL headquarters. The NYPD reported that the scene was contained shortly after the shooting, with the lone gunman neutralized. One civilian is in critical condition, while the NYPD officer, shot in the back, and another civilian are expected to survive, a law enforcement official told CNN. The officer, assigned to a Bronx precinct, was stationed near the building when the incident unfolded.

Witnesses reported seeing a man armed with a long rifle entering the building after the shooting. The NYPD bomb squad and the FBI responded to the scene to provide support and investigate further. The office building was placed on lockdown, and authorities urged the public to avoid the area around East 52nd Street between Park and Lexington Avenues due to heavy police activity and expected traffic disruptions.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch announced on X that the situation was under control and the suspect was deceased. New York City’s emergency management system also warned of road closures, mass transit delays, and a significant emergency response in the area.

The motive for the shooting remains unclear, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities have not released the identities of the suspect or the victims. The NYPD and FBI are working together to gather more details, with updates expected as the situation develops.
