ICE Agent Shot and Arrested After Allegedly Assaulting Residents in Fresno

An off-duty U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent was shot and later arrested early Friday in Fresno, California, after police said he was found sleeping on a residential lawn, appeared intoxicated, and assaulted a 72-year-old homeowner and his daughter.
Fresno Police received multiple reports of a gunshot shortly after 3 a.m. near East Dudley Avenue and North Broadway Street. Officers arrived to find 32-year-old David Gonzalez, identified as an ICE agent from Texas, handcuffed and suffering a gunshot wound to his midsection. According to the department, a woman returning home discovered Gonzalez asleep on her front lawn and notified her 72-year-old father, who was inside the house.
When the father confronted Gonzalez and asked him to leave, police said the agent appeared “intoxicated and agitated.” Gonzalez allegedly assaulted the older man, forcing him to the ground and causing visible injuries. When the woman tried to intervene, Gonzalez also attacked her, police said. Fearing for his own safety and that of his daughter, the father produced a legally owned firearm and fired a single shot, striking Gonzalez in the midsection. The woman’s boyfriend, an off-duty police officer, arrived shortly afterward and placed Gonzalez in handcuffs.
Gonzalez was taken to a hospital for treatment and later arrested on suspicion of felony assault and related charges, including battery likely to cause great bodily injury and vandalism. Fresno police stated that the 72-year-old homeowner would not face charges and was legally in possession of the firearm. It was not immediately clear why Gonzalez, who was confirmed to be off-duty and alone, was in the neighborhood. ICE and the Department of Homeland Security referred inquiries to local police and did not immediately provide further comment; federal authorities later opened an internal personnel investigation. 17GEN4.com
The incident occurred amid heightened ICE activity and arrests reported in the Fresno and Central Valley area that week. Local protests followed, with demonstrators questioning ICE operations. Police denied any confrontation between local officers and ICE personnel at the hospital where Gonzalez was treated. As of the latest reports, Gonzalez remained in custody while receiving medical care, and the investigation continued.
