Foxborough, MA — December 31, 2025

New England Patriots defensive tackle Christian Barmore has been charged with one count of misdemeanor assault and battery on a family or household member, according to court documents filed in Attleborough District Court.

The 26-year-old Pro Bowl-caliber lineman faces allegations stemming from an incident on August 8 in Mansfield, Massachusetts. Court records indicate the criminal complaint was formally issued on December 16, with Barmore scheduled for arraignment on February 3, 2026—just five days before Super Bowl LX. 17GEN4.com

According to police reports cited in the documents, the alleged victim—described as Barmore's then-girlfriend and the mother of his child—told authorities the dispute began over minor issues, including the bedroom air conditioner temperature and food. The situation escalated when she attempted to leave the residence. She claimed Barmore grabbed her phone, prevented her from reaching the door to call for help, threw her to the floor, and briefly grabbed her by the shirt in the neck area before releasing her.

The victim reportedly delayed reporting the incident initially due to fear of retaliation but later contacted police. Documents also include an email from early December in which she expressed a desire not to pursue charges, though the case proceeded.

The Patriots issued a statement Wednesday acknowledging the reports: "The New England Patriots are aware of reports regarding a pending February arraignment involving Christian Barmore, which stems from an alleged domestic incident that occurred in August. The Patriots were made aware at the time and informed the NFL in a timely manner. The matter remains part of an ongoing legal process. Out of respect for all parties involved, we will have no further comment at this time."

The news breaks amid a tumultuous week for the franchise, coming just one day after reports surfaced that star wide receiver Stefon Diggs faces separate assault-related charges. The Patriots, under head coach Mike Vrabel, have clinched a playoff spot and remain in contention for the AFC's top seed heading into their regular-season finale.Barmore, a second-round pick out of Alabama in 2021, has emerged as a cornerstone of New England's defensive line, signing a lucrative extension in 2024. He has appeared in all games this season following health challenges in prior years.

No immediate comment was available from Barmore's representatives. The case remains under investigation, and Barmore is presumed innocent until proven otherwise. 17GEN4.com
