Israel Launches Preemptive Missile Strikes on Iran, Sparking Fears of Escalation

Tel Aviv / Tehran – February 28, 2026 — Israel conducted a major preemptive missile attack on Iran early Saturday morning, with explosions reported across Tehran and other locations, according to Israeli officials and multiple international news sources.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced the operation, describing it as a "pre-emptive strike" aimed at removing imminent threats to the State of Israel. "The State of Israel launched a pre-emptive attack against Iran to remove threats against the State of Israel," Katz stated in an official release. The Israeli military immediately declared a nationwide state of emergency, closed airspace, and activated air raid sirens across the country in anticipation of retaliatory Iranian missile and drone strikes.

Reports indicate the strikes targeted military sites, including facilities linked to Iran's ballistic missile program and air defense systems. Multiple explosions were heard in downtown Tehran, with smoke rising near sensitive government areas, including locations close to the offices of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iranian media and residents described blasts in the capital and other provinces, though casualty figures and the full extent of damage remained unconfirmed in the immediate aftermath.

The operation, reportedly coordinated with the United States, comes amid heightened tensions over Iran's nuclear program and ballistic missile capabilities. U.S. officials confirmed American participation in the strikes, describing them as joint efforts focused on military targets. The attacks follow stalled diplomatic talks in Geneva aimed at curbing Iran's nuclear activities, with President Trump expressing frustration over the lack of progress in recent negotiations.

Israel's military emphasized that the action was defensive in nature, taken to neutralize threats following previous exchanges, including a 12-day air conflict in June 2025. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) sounded proactive alerts nationwide, urging civilians to remain in protected areas as officials warned of an expected Iranian response "in the immediate time frame."

Iran has yet to issue an official statement on casualties or its planned retaliation, but Iranian officials have historically vowed forceful responses to attacks on their soil. The strikes mark a significant escalation in the long-running shadow war between the two nations, raising international concerns about a broader regional conflict.

Air raid sirens blared in Israel as the country braced for potential counterstrikes, with no-fly zones declared over both nations. Global markets reacted sharply, with oil prices surging on fears of disruptions in the Middle East.

The situation remains fluid, with developments expected in the coming hours. International leaders have called for restraint as the region teeters on the edge of further confrontation.

Who is your Daddy? I said earlier this afternoon that ISRAEL would UNILATERALLY kick off the war.
