Redlands, California — December 15, 2025

Authorities in Redlands, California, are investigating a drive-by attack on a Jewish family's home as a possible hate crime after a suspect fired approximately 20 rounds while shouting antisemitic slurs, including "F*** the Jews," late Friday night.

The incident occurred around 8 p.m. on December 12, just as the family returned home on the eve of Hanukkah. The residence was prominently decorated for the Jewish Festival of Lights, featuring illuminated signs, inflatables, and other visible Jewish symbols in the front yard.

Doorbell camera footage captured the suspect in a passing vehicle unleashing the barrage of projectiles toward the house before speeding away. No injuries were reported, and the family was inside at the time. However, some Hanukkah inflatables were damaged by the impacts.

Redlands Police Department confirmed no shell casings were found at the scene, leading investigators to believe the weapon was likely a non-lethal replica firearm, such as an airsoft or pellet gun. The attack is being probed as a hate crime, with officials stating the home appeared to have been targeted specifically due to its festive Hanukkah decorations.

Homeowner Rodgir Cohen, a political science professor, shared details of the ordeal on social media, describing how a group had been parked nearby shortly before the shooting and shouted phrases including "Free Palestine" in his direction.

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) swiftly condemned the incident. "Last night’s shooting into the home of a Jewish family on Shabbat in Redlands, CA, is another dangerous and despicable act of antisemitic violence impacting the Jewish community in Southern California," said David Englin, senior regional director for ADL Los Angeles. "This cannot be tolerated or accepted as normal."

ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt highlighted the broader implications, noting that Hanukkah traditionally encourages public displays of Jewish identity. "Hanukkah is a time when Jews are meant to publicly display their identity and faith," he stated. The City of Redlands issued a statement acknowledging the attack amid global concerns over rising antisemitism during the holiday. Increased patrols have been deployed around Jewish institutions and Hanukkah events in the area.

This incident comes amid heightened tensions following a separate deadly antisemitic attack on a Hanukkah gathering in Sydney, Australia, over the weekend, underscoring fears of escalating violence against Jewish communities worldwide.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact the Redlands Police Department. The suspect remains at large. 17GEN4.com
