Elsmere, Delaware — December 30, 2025

Linda Stevenson, the 64-year-old wife of Bill Stevenson — the ex-husband of former First Lady Jill Biden — was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at her Delaware home late Sunday night following a police response to a reported domestic dispute.

New Castle County Police were dispatched to the couple's residence in the Oak Hill neighborhood around 11:15 p.m. on December 28 after receiving a 911 call. Upon arrival, officers discovered Linda Stevenson in the living room, where they immediately attempted life-saving measures. Despite their efforts, she was declared dead at the scene.

Authorities have transferred her body to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science for an autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of death. Dispatch audio from the incident reportedly referenced a possible cardiac arrest, though officials have not confirmed this as the cause.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Unit are leading the ongoing death investigation. As of now, no charges have been filed, and police have released limited details about the nature of the domestic dispute or those involved.

Bill Stevenson, a former owner of the iconic Stone Balloon music venue near the University of Delaware, married Linda nearly 40 years ago following his 1975 divorce from Jill Biden (then Jill Stevenson). The couple's marriage began in 1970 when Jill was a college student, ending after five years amid a contentious split that included disputes over business ownership.

Stevenson has occasionally spoken publicly about his past marriage, including claims disputing the timeline of how Jill met Joe Biden. Jill Biden married then-Senator Joe Biden in 1977, two years after her divorce.

The incident has drawn attention due to the Stevensons' historical ties to the Biden family, though no connection to the former president or first lady has been suggested in the ongoing probe.

This remains a developing story, with authorities expected to provide updates as the investigation progresses.
