Top Arizona News: Scottsdale Officer-Involved Shooting, Hazen Fire Near Buckeye, 31 Missing Children Found | 17GEN4 News – May 6, 2026

PHOENIX — May 5, 2026 — Multiple major incidents are dominating headlines across Arizona Wednesday as law enforcement, firefighters, and state agencies respond to a mix of public-safety emergencies and long-running investigations.
In Old Town Scottsdale, authorities are investigating an early-morning officer-involved shooting near Miller and Camelback roads. Officers responded to reports of shots fired shortly after 2 a.m. A suspect is in custody following the incident, which prompted a heavy police presence including SWAT teams at a nearby apartment complex. Residents were asked to avoid the area as multiple scenes remained active. No further details on injuries have been released pending official statements.
Just west of Phoenix, crews continue battling the Hazen Fire near Buckeye. The brush fire has already scorched more than 1,000 acres, fueled by dense, dry vegetation including salt cedar. Containment remains limited as hot, dry conditions persist. Fire officials say progress has been made, but crews are bracing for challenging weather in the days ahead. Plumes of smoke remain visible across the West Valley.
In a major multi-agency success, U.S. Marshals announced that “Operation Desert Dawn” recovered 31 missing or endangered children across Arizona last month. The operation continues to draw attention as part of broader efforts to locate vulnerable youth and combat related crimes.
Separately, a missing teenager from Utah was safely located in Litchfield Park in the West Valley. A suspect with a prior history of sexual assault accusations was arrested in connection with the case, according to authorities including the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
Elsewhere, a Glendale woman is facing charges for allegedly operating an unlicensed cosmetic business offering Botox and filler injections. Multiple alleged victims have come forward, prompting an active investigation by local authorities.
Additional developing stories include controversy at the Peoria Unified School District, where the board president was voted out amid disputes involving Centennial High School, and Governor Katie Hobbs’ veto of a Republican-backed spending plan. In northern Arizona, multiple bobcat attacks have been reported in the Prescott area, including one dramatic incident in which a family dog protected its owner.
Phoenix-area crime, wildfire danger, and child-safety operations remain the dominant themes as temperatures climb and fire season intensifies.
17GEN4 News will continue monitoring all active scenes and provide live updates as new information becomes available.
