If nobody cares, why do some people care so much?

It isn't about Israel, or Palestine, or plagiarism. It is about who gets to decide who is allowed to say what and when. Opinion: 'Plagiarism' due to, or decided by, improper citation of sources stopped being a thing when academic institutions failed to prevent students from using Wikipedia as a citable source, as it was not considered to be a 'scholarly source' worthy of reference. At that time, the phrase 'scholarly source' was deemed to be racist and that put an end to the discussion.

That was many years ago, but not that long ago. After all, it was probably 'Originality Verification' tools used in academia that helped train the AI tools that now attempt to produce many original versions of the same material. How many students who all arrived at the same answer, all on their own, were met with some version of sorry, you are going to have to rewrite that because your OV score was just too high. Too high relative to the 'A' students or the 'D' students?

THIS IS NOT an attempt to defend the willful direct and illicit reproduction of someone else's work. This is to say, how far can one take concepts such as equitable math, and say, literally, the numbers do not have to add up in order for it to be correct and then apply the social construct of 'proper' citation as a reason for termination.

The issue here is who gets to decide what is free speech and what is hate speech in a demonstration of power hierarchy. Those you are not allowed to criticize. This demonstration also reveals who let those same individuals, now criticized, demonstrate their power over those they were permitted to criticize both outside of as well as from within those same academic institutions.
