In 2014, Michael Skidmore, on behalf of the estate of Spirit guitarist Randy Wolfe, sued Led Zeppelin, claiming they stole the opening riff to “Stairway to Heaven” from Spirit’s instrumental track “Taurus.” The case was ultimately ended when the US Supreme Court declined to hear the appeal in 2020.
