On July 26, 2025, a 42-year-old Michigan resident stabbed 11 people at a Walmart in Traverse City, Michigan, in what authorities described as a random attack. The incident began around 4:43 p.m. near the store’s checkout area, with the suspect using a folding knife. A sheriff’s deputy, with help from bystanders, apprehended the suspect within three minutes. The suspect acted alone and was not injured.

All 11 victims—six males and five females—were treated at Munson Medical Center. As of Saturday night, six were in critical condition, five in serious condition, and three had undergone surgery. The victims’ ages were not disclosed, but none were Walmart employees or first responders. The Michigan State Police and FBI are assisting the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation, and the Walmart remains closed for evidence processing. Authorities have not released the suspect’s identity or motive, emphasizing the attack’s random nature.
