BOULDER, CO — On June 1, 2025, a violent incident disrupted a peaceful pro-Israel demonstration at the Pearl Street Mall in Boulder, Colorado, leaving multiple individuals injured. Authorities have identified the suspect in custody as Mohamad Soliman, with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) classifying the event as a "targeted terror attack." The incident has sparked widespread concern about rising tensions and safety at public gatherings.

According to Boulder Police Chief Steve Redfearn, officers responded to reports of a man "setting people on fire" with a weapon shortly before 1:30 p.m. on Sunday at the intersection of 13th and Pearl Streets. Responding officers found several victims with burn-related injuries, ranging from minor to very serious, and transported them to local hospitals. The suspect, identified as Mohamad Soliman, was apprehended at the scene. Chief Redfearn noted that a peaceful pro-Israel solidarity walk, organized by the group Run For Their Lives to advocate for the release of Israeli hostages held in Gaza, was underway at the time. The investigation is ongoing to determine if the group was specifically targeted.

FBI Director Kash Patel issued a statement describing the incident as a "targeted terror attack," with federal and local law enforcement actively investigating. "Our agents and local law enforcement are on the scene already, and we will share updates as more information becomes available," Patel said. FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino added that the bureau is treating the event as a deliberate act of terrorism and targeted violence. Emergency services cordoned off the 1200, 1300, and 1400 blocks of Pearl Street between Walnut and Pine Streets to secure the area and provide medical assistance.

Preliminary reports and witness accounts indicate that Soliman, allegedly disguised as a landscaper, threw Molotov cocktails at participants of the demonstration, injuring several people, including children. Witnesses described a chaotic and terrifying scene as flames erupted, forcing attendees to flee in panic. Video footage circulating on social media purportedly shows the suspect holding Molotov cocktail-like bottles and arguing with demonstrators, at one point saying, "They’re jealous," in reference to the group.

While authorities have not officially confirmed Soliman’s identity or motive, prominent social media accounts, including those of political commentator Laura Loomer and the organization StopAntisemitism, have publicly named him as the attacker. Boulder Police Chief Redfearn cautioned against speculation, stating, "It would be irresponsible for me to speculate on motive this early on." The investigation remains active, with law enforcement interviewing witnesses and analyzing evidence to uncover the circumstances and intent behind the attack.

The incident has raised alarm about rising antisemitism and violence against minority communities in the United States. Boulder’s Jewish Community issued a statement expressing heartbreak: "We are saddened and heartbroken to learn that an incendiary device was thrown at walkers at the Run for Their Lives walk on Pearl Street as they were raising awareness for the hostages still held in Gaza." Colorado Governor Jared Polis condemned the act, posting on social media that "hate-filled acts of any kind are unacceptable."

As the Boulder community grapples with the aftermath, local leaders and residents have called for unity, resilience, and a renewed commitment to peaceful dialogue. The investigation continues, with authorities pledging to bring justice for the victims and ensure safety at future public events.
