BOULDER, Colo. — A man identified as Mohamed Sabry Soliman has been charged with multiple offenses, including first-degree murder, following a violent attack at the Pearl Street Mall in Boulder, Colorado, on June 1, 2025. The suspect is being held on a $10 million bond as authorities investigate the incident, which the FBI has classified as a "targeted terror attack."

The attack occurred during a demonstration organized by Run for Their Lives, a pro-Israel group raising awareness for hostages held in Gaza. According to the FBI, Soliman allegedly yelled "Free Palestine" while using a makeshift flamethrower and throwing incendiary devices, such as Molotov cocktails, into the crowd. Eight people, aged 52 to 88, were injured, with injuries ranging from minor to critical, and some victims suffered burns. One of the injured was reportedly a Holocaust survivor, intensifying community outrage.

Boulder Police Chief Stephen Redfearn confirmed that Soliman was taken into custody at the scene after witnesses pointed him out to officers. He was booked into the Boulder County Jail just before midnight on June 1, 2025, facing charges that include first-degree murder, use of explosives or incendiary devices during a felony, and other related offenses. However, authorities have not confirmed any fatalities resulting from the attack, leaving uncertainty around the circumstances of the murder charge.

The FBI, led by Special Agent in Charge Mark Michalek of the Denver field office, is investigating the incident as an act of terrorism, citing preliminary evidence that the attack was targeted. Colorado Governor Jared Polis condemned the violence, calling it a "heinous act of terror" and stating, "Hate-filled acts of any kind are unacceptable." The attack, occurring on the eve of the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, has been widely denounced as antisemitic, with Rabbi Israel Wilhelm of the University of Colorado Boulder noting the impact on the Jewish community.

Soliman’s bond has been set at $10 million, reflecting the severity of the charges and the ongoing threat assessment. Multiple blocks of the Pearl Street Mall, a popular pedestrian area in downtown Boulder, were evacuated as police investigated a vehicle of interest and ensured public safety. Law enforcement continues to appeal for video footage from the public, directing submissions to fbi.gov/boulderattack.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the U.S. over the Israel-Hamas conflict, following a separate attack last month in Washington, D.C., where two Israeli embassy staffers were fatally shot. The Boulder attack has renewed concerns about rising antisemitic violence, with Governor Polis and community leaders expressing solidarity with the affected.

Investigations are ongoing, with authorities yet to clarify a motive or the full scope of the charges. The Boulder Police Department and FBI are working together to ensure Soliman is held "fully accountable," according to officials.
