Following receipt of intelligence indicating an Iranian plot to assassinate former President Donald Trump, the Secret Service has increased security measures around him. According to multiple sources briefed on the matter, the agency has “added protective resources and capabilities” to Trump’s security detail.
This enhanced security posture is a direct response to the credible threat from Iran, which was reportedly uncovered through human intelligence sources in recent weeks. The Secret Service has been working closely with other law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, to investigate the plot and ensure Trump’s safety.
Before the recent intelligence emerged, the Secret Service had already been warning the Trump campaign about the potential risks associated with outdoor rallies, which can be more challenging to secure than indoor events. The agency had repeatedly cautioned against holding such events, citing the greater risks involved.
In the past, the Trump campaign had also taken steps to improve security, such as discontinuing spontaneous off-the-record events where guests were not thoroughly screened by the Secret Service.
The FBI is leading the investigation into Saturday’s assassination attempt, while the Secret Service is focusing on its own internal review of the incident. The Department of Homeland Security and Iran’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations have been contacted for comment, but neither has publicly responded. 17GEN4.com
