NEW ORLEANS, LA — Authorities are intensifying their manhunt for Antoine Massey and Derrick Groves, the last two fugitives from a daring jailbreak at the Orleans Justice Center that has exposed critical security flaws and heightened public safety concerns. Massey, a serial escapee with a history of violent crimes, and Groves, tied to a Mardi Gras double murder, remain at large nearly a week after the escape, prompting a $20,000 reward per inmate for information leading to their capture.

The breakout, which occurred last week, saw ten inmates exploit defective locks and broken cameras to flee the facility. Six escapees have been apprehended, including Lenton VanBuren Jr., who was recaptured in Baton Rouge on Monday outside a sneaker store. However, Massey and Groves continue to evade law enforcement, with recent developments indicating Massey’s sister and girlfriend were arrested for allegedly aiding his efforts to hide. Sheriff Susan Hutson has publicly acknowledged the failure, attributing the breach to understaffing and inadequate oversight, as noted in prior federal reports.

Massey, described as a four-time killer with multiple prior escapes from custody, is considered particularly dangerous. Groves, charged in a high-profile double homicide, adds to the urgency of the search. “The escape exposed critical security flaws,” authorities stated, emphasizing the need for systemic reforms at the Orleans Justice Center.

The manhunt has mobilized local and federal law enforcement, with the public urged to provide tips while warned not to approach the fugitives. The incident has sparked broader discussions about jail security and resource allocation in New Orleans, as residents grapple with the ongoing threat.
