BOULDER, CO — June 1, 2025, 10:32 PM PDT - In the wake of a violent incident in Boulder, Colorado, labeled by the FBI as a "targeted terror attack," Attorney General Pam Bondi issued a heartfelt statement expressing solidarity with the Jewish community and a firm stance against hate-driven violence.
The attack, which occurred Sunday afternoon at the Pearl Street Mall, involved a suspect, identified as 45-year-old Mohamed Sabry Soliman, who allegedly shouted "Free Palestine" while using a makeshift flamethrower and throwing Molotov cocktails at a crowd of pro-Israel demonstrators. The group, part of the "Run for Their Lives" volunteer organization, had gathered to raise awareness for Israeli hostages held in Gaza. Six individuals, ranging in age from 67 to 88, were injured, with some suffering burns and one victim reported in critical condition, according to Boulder Police and the FBI.
"FBI agents are on the ground in Colorado following what appears to be a horrific anti-Semitic attack," Bondi stated. "My heart and my prayers are with the Jewish community. We will not tolerate this hatred, and we will put the perpetrator of this violence behind bars."
The FBI, under the direction of Chief Kash Patel, is investigating the incident as an act of terrorism, with early evidence and witness accounts pointing to ideologically motivated violence. Boulder Police Chief Steve Redfearn noted that while the motive is still under investigation, the injuries sustained by victims were consistent with being set on fire. The suspect, Soliman, was taken into custody at the scene and treated for minor injuries. Federal charges are expected as authorities determine whether terrorism or other criminal statutes apply.
The attack has drawn widespread condemnation, with Colorado Governor Jared Polis calling it a "vicious act of terrorism" and "unfathomable" for the Jewish community, especially on the eve of the Jewish holiday Shavuot. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar and Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, also denounced the incident, labeling it "pure anti-Semitism" and "terrorism," respectively.
Bondi’s statement echoes a broader outcry from officials and community leaders, including the Anti-Defamation League and Boulder’s Jewish Community Center, who have highlighted a recent wave of violence targeting Jewish Americans. This incident follows the fatal shooting of two Israeli embassy employees in Washington, D.C., less than two weeks ago, fueling concerns about rising anti-Semitic attacks across the United States.
As the investigation unfolds, law enforcement, including the FBI and local police, remain on high alert, with Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announcing extra patrols at houses of worship and community centers ahead of Shavuot. The nation watches closely as authorities work to ensure justice and address the growing threat of hate-driven violence.
