NORTH BEND, OR – A dramatic incident unfolded early Monday morning, April 7, 2025, when a Honda HA-420 HondaJet, registered as N826E, crashed into Coos Bay after overrunning the runway at Southwest Oregon Regional Airport. The light business jet, which had departed from St. George, Utah, came to rest approximately 100 feet off the east end of runway 05, submerged in the chilly waters of the bay.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene shortly after the crash, which occurred around 7:50 AM PDT, according to North Bend fire officials. All five individuals on board—comprising four passengers and one crew member—were successfully rescued from the water. The survivors were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. As of 12:42 PM PDT, authorities have not released details regarding their conditions, leaving the public awaiting further updates on their recovery.

The aircraft, owned by Andy Leavitt Enterprises LLC of North Bend, according to FAA records, had just completed its journey from St. George when the accident occurred. Initial reports suggest the jet failed to stop on the runway, skidding beyond its eastern boundary and into the adjacent water channel. Posts on X captured the tense moments following the crash, with air traffic control audio revealing confusion as officials sought to locate the aircraft after it disappeared from the runway.

The cause of the overrun remains under investigation, with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) expected to lead the inquiry. Weather conditions, runway status, and pilot actions are among the factors likely to be examined. The Southwest Oregon Regional Airport, the only commercial airport on the Oregon Coast, has temporarily restricted access to the area as emergency crews continue their work.

Local authorities have urged the public to avoid the crash site to ensure the safety of responders and facilitate the ongoing investigation. This incident marks a rare and alarming event for the small coastal airport, raising questions about the safety of operations at the facility. Updates will follow as more information becomes available on the condition of those involved and the circumstances that led to this startling crash. 17GEN4.com
