  • 1506: Construction of the current St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City began under Pope Julius II, marking a pivotal moment in Renaissance architecture. The basilica, designed by architects like Michelangelo and Bernini, remains a central symbol of the Catholic Church.

  • 1775: During the American Revolutionary War, Paul Revere and William Dawes embarked on their famous midnight ride to warn colonists in Massachusetts of approaching British forces, a key prelude to the Battles of Lexington and Concord.

  • 1906: A devastating earthquake struck San Francisco, California, with an estimated magnitude of 7.9. The quake and subsequent fires killed around 3,000 people, destroyed much of the city, and left hundreds of thousands homeless, making it one of the deadliest natural disasters in U.S. history.
