  • 1578: William Harvey, the English physician who discovered the circulation of blood, was born. His work laid foundational principles for modern medicine.

  • 1815: Otto von Bismarck, the German statesman who unified Germany and served as its first chancellor, was born. He’s a key figure in 19th-century European politics.

  • 1867: The Straits Settlements (including Singapore) became a Crown Colony under British rule, marking a step in colonial expansion in Southeast Asia.
