1889: The Eiffel Tower in Paris was officially opened to the public. Designed by Gustave Eiffel’s company, it became a global symbol of France and an engineering marvel of its time.
1918: Daylight Saving Time went into effect in the United States for the first time. This was part of an effort to conserve energy during World War I, though it’s been a topic of debate ever since.
