New York, NY – November 16, 2025

New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd is clinging to life in a Manhattan hospital after being shot in the early hours of Sunday morning. The 29-year-old veteran defensive back, who joined the Jets this season, was critically wounded in what police describe as a brazen attack outside a Midtown nightclub, sending waves of concern through fans, teammates, and league officials alike. The incident unfolded around 2 a.m. ET on West 38th Street near Seventh Avenue, a bustling stretch of Midtown Manhattan known for its vibrant nightlife and proximity to Times Square. According to sources cited by the New York Post, Boyd was struck in the abdomen by gunfire amid what appeared to be a chaotic altercation outside a popular club. Emergency responders rushed him to Bellevue Hospital, the city's oldest public medical center, where he underwent immediate surgery and remains in critical condition.

Doctors have described his status as "fighting for his life," with the next several hours expected to be pivotal in his recovery.

New York Police Department officials confirmed the shooting but initially withheld the victim's identity, citing the ongoing investigation. No arrests have been made, and detectives are combing through surveillance footage and witness statements in a bid to identify and apprehend the shooter or shooters. "This is an active and fluid situation," an NYPD spokesperson told reporters outside the scene. "Our priority is ensuring the victim's care and bringing those responsible to justice."

Boyd, standing at 5-foot-11 and weighing 201 pounds, was a seventh-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2019 NFL Draft out of the University of Texas, where he earned two-time All-Big 12 honors as a lockdown corner. His professional journey has taken him through stints with the Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, and Houston Texans before signing a one-year deal with the Jets in free agency this past March. Envisioned as a depth piece at cornerback and on special teams, Boyd's 2025 campaign was derailed early when he landed on injured reserve in August with a shoulder injury, sidelining him for the season.

He had recorded five solo tackles in limited action prior to the setback. The Jets organization, mired in a 2-7 start to the season and enjoying a bye week this weekend, issued a brief statement late Sunday morning expressing their devastation. "Our hearts are with Kris Boyd and his family during this unimaginable time," the team said. "We are praying for his full recovery and ask for privacy as we support him through this ordeal." Head coach Robert Saleh, reached by phone ahead of next Sunday's matchup against the New England Patriots, echoed the sentiment, calling Boyd "a warrior on and off the field" and urging fans to keep him in their thoughts.

Tributes poured in swiftly across social media, with current and former teammates, as well as fans, flooding platforms like X with messages of support. "Prayers up for my brother Kris. You've got this, keep fighting," posted Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson. Minnesota Vikings safety Harrison Smith, who overlapped with Boyd during his rookie years, added, "Unbelievable news. Kris is one of the toughest dudes I know. Sending all the love." The outpouring highlighted Boyd's reputation as a resilient player and positive presence in locker rooms throughout his career. This tragedy strikes at a precarious moment for the Jets, who are grappling with injuries and inconsistency on defense amid a frustrating campaign. Yet, the focus remains squarely on Boyd's well-being, a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities that extend beyond the gridiron. As the investigation unfolds, the football world holds its breath, united in hope for a miraculous recovery. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available. 17GEN4.com
