ATHENS, Ga. — Just days before the 2026 NFL Draft, former Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Zachariah Branch, a projected Day 2 pick, was arrested early Sunday morning on two misdemeanor charges related to obstructing a public sidewalk and a law enforcement officer.
According to the Athens-Clarke County arrest log, Branch was booked at 1:26 a.m. local time on April 19 and released roughly two hours later after posting a total bond of $39. He faces charges of "obstructing public sidewalks/streets — prowling" and "obstruction of a law enforcement officer."
Branch, who transferred from USC to Georgia for the 2025 season, had a standout final college campaign with the Bulldogs, recording a program single-season record of 81 catches for 811 yards and six touchdowns. The 5-foot-9 slot receiver, known for his speed and yards-after-catch ability, attended Georgia's spring game (G-Day) inside Sanford Stadium on Saturday and was still in Athens when the incident occurred.
A police report obtained by NFL Network detailed the encounter. An officer stated that Branch continued to stand on the sidewalk without moving despite multiple verbal commands. The report alleged that he "smirked," stepped slightly aside but remained in a position that obstructed free passage and access to nearby businesses. He was subsequently arrested for failing to comply with the lawful orders.
The arrest comes at a critical time for Branch, who was widely viewed as a potential second-round selection in the draft, which begins Thursday. Teams will now have to weigh the off-field incident against his on-field production and athletic profile as they finalize their boards.
No further details on the circumstances leading to the police interaction—such as any larger disturbance or context from the spring game aftermath—have been publicly released beyond the report. Branch has not commented publicly on the matter as of Monday morning.
NFL teams and draft analysts are expected to monitor any potential impact on Branch's stock as the draft approaches.
