DENVER — Multiple RTD commuter rail lines were temporarily suspended Sunday afternoon after a passenger vehicle drove onto the tracks near Union Station, blocking access for trains.

The incident, reported around 2 p.m. on April 19, 2026, halted service on the A, B, G, and N lines into and out of Denver's bustling downtown transit hub. Regional Transportation District (RTD) officials said the car was obstructing the tracks, forcing the closure of the station to commuter rail traffic while authorities and a towing crew responded.

RTD spokesperson Pauline Haberman confirmed that a tow truck arrived on scene by approximately 4:15 p.m. to remove the vehicle. Shuttle buses were deployed to replace portions of the affected routes, helping stranded passengers reach stations like Pecos Junction or 41st and Fox on the G Line.

The A Line, which provides critical service to Denver International Airport, was among those impacted, potentially affecting travelers heading to or from the airport. Other lines serve destinations north and west of the city. No injuries were reported, and details about how the vehicle ended up on the tracks—whether due to driver error, mechanical issues, or otherwise—were not immediately available.

Union Station, a major multimodal hub connecting light rail, commuter rail, buses, and Amtrak, remained open for other services, but the disruption created headaches for Sunday afternoon commuters. RTD urged riders to check its app or website for real-time updates and alternative routing.

Service on the affected lines resumed once the vehicle was cleared and tracks were inspected for safety. The incident underscores ongoing challenges with track security in urban rail systems, where unauthorized vehicles can cause significant delays.RTD has not released the make or model of the vehicle, though local reports described it as a passenger car. Authorities are investigating the circumstances.

This marks the latest service disruption for RTD, following recent maintenance work on overhead wires at Union Station earlier in April. Officials reminded riders to remain vigilant around tracks and never attempt to drive or walk on them.
