CAMP VERDE, Ariz. — An 11-year-old girl, missing for months, was safely located in a short-term rental home in Camp Verde and is now in the custody of the Arizona Department of Child Safety, authorities announced. The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office, in collaboration with the U.S. Marshal's Service, acted on a tip that led them to the residence on August 11, according to a Sheriff's Office statement posted on Facebook.
The girl, who was reported missing from her Phoenix home by her father—the legal custodial parent—was found unharmed in the company of her mother and grandmother. The Sheriff's Office stated that the child had been "unlawfully taken" from the Phoenix area, sparking a months-long search.
Following the discovery, authorities obtained an emergency warrant, and the girl was placed in the care of the state child welfare system. Her mother and grandmother were arrested without incident on active warrants, though specific charges were not disclosed in the statement.
