Turkish National Soccer Team Arrives in Mesa, Arizona for 2026 World Cup Training – Fans Turn Out in Force

Mesa, Ariz. — June 8, 2026 — The Turkish men’s national soccer team (A Milli Takım) has officially arrived in the East Valley, turning Mesa into a vibrant hub of red-and-white pride as the squad begins its final preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The team touched down in Arizona on June 7 after earlier training stints in Turkey, Germany, and a send-off match against Venezuela in Miami. Fans lined streets near the team hotel and Arizona Athletic Grounds, waving Turkish flags, chanting, and braving the desert heat to greet the players and staff.

Approximately 100 enthusiastic supporters gathered for the arrival, creating an electric atmosphere with music, flags, and cheers. “We couldn’t even imagine in our dream… a Turkish national team coming to train in Arizona,” one fan told FOX 10 Phoenix. Another declared, “They’re obviously going to win.”

World-Class Facilities at Arizona Athletic Grounds

The 275-acre Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa serves as Türkiye’s official FIFA Team Base Camp. The sprawling complex features multiple high-standard fields (meticulously maintained to FIFA specifications), a Fieldhouse, and modern amenities. It will function as the team’s “home away from home,” where players will rest, recover, and train between matches.

The choice marks a significant economic and cultural boost for Mesa. Visit Mesa projects roughly $3 million in local economic impact. The facility previously hosted other elite events but is serving as a World Cup base camp for the first time.

Türkiye is drawn in Group D alongside co-host United States, Paraguay, and Australia. Their tournament opener is June 13 against Australia in Vancouver, Canada, followed by a high-profile clash with the U.S. on June 25. Between games, the squad will return to Mesa for recovery and training.

Community Celebration Today

Today (June 8) features a free Türkiye Men’s National Team Community Day at Arizona Athletic Grounds from 5:30–9 p.m. Highlights include:

  • Live music by Campbell Blue Creek

  • Turkish food trucks and artisan vendors

  • Kids’ soccer activities with Arizona Arsenal Soccer Club

  • Ebru art demonstrations and family-friendly experiences

A public training session follows (approximately 7:30–8:45 p.m.), though access requires free (but sold-out) tickets via TIXR. Additional closed or limited-access sessions are scheduled in the coming days.

Latest Updates (as of June 8, 2026)

  • The team has settled into their nearby hotel (Courtyard Mesa) and begun light sessions at the Grounds.

  • Local Turkish-American community (estimated 4,000 in the Valley) has been actively involved in welcomes, with some offering traditional hospitality.

  • Mesa Mayor Mark Freeman and officials joined the greeting efforts.

  • No major injuries or disruptions reported; focus remains on acclimating to Arizona’s intense summer heat.

  • Coverage across FOX 10, ABC15, 12News, and Turkish media shows strong positive sentiment and excitement for the global spotlight on Mesa.

This marks a proud moment for Arizona sports tourism as the 2026 World Cup approaches, with Mesa playing a key supporting role on the international stage.
