According to Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle, the deputies were responding to a report that someone inside the home was threatening to kill themself or others. A family member called police shortly after 8:30 a.m. to report the threats from someone at the home. Negotiators tried to reach the person by phone and decided to go inside shortly before noon.
Three people were taken to the hospital, two of whom were treated and released, and the condition of the third person was not immediately known. The Illinois State Police will handle the investigation of the shooting.
