New Delhi, May 6, 2025 – In a bold and decisive military operation codenamed "Operation Sindoor," the Indian Armed Forces conducted precision missile strikes on nine terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), killing at least 70 terrorists.

The operation, described by sources as "swift, surgical, and unapologetically assertive," was a direct response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians, including 25 tourists and one Nepali national.

The Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force executed the joint operation in the early hours of Wednesday, targeting key terrorist infrastructure, including the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) headquarters in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) facilities in Muridke. The strikes, which began at 1:44 AM, utilized advanced precision strike weapon systems, including kamikaze drones, designed to minimize collateral damage while ensuring maximum impact on terrorist targets. The Indian Army emphasized that no Pakistani military facilities were targeted, underscoring India's restraint in the selection and execution of the operation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had vowed to avenge the Pahalgam attack, closely monitored the operation through the night, according to sources. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval briefed U.S. National Security Advisor and Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the actions taken, highlighting India's commitment to countering terrorism. The operation marks the first time since the 1971 Indo-Pak war that all three branches of the Indian armed forces have collaborated in a military action against Pakistan.

The Pahalgam attack, linked to Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and LeT, had sparked nationwide outrage in India, prompting a series of diplomatic and non-military measures, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and the expulsion of Pakistani nationals. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) confirmed that two of the attackers were Pakistani nationals, further solidifying evidence of cross-border terrorism orchestrated by Pakistan-based groups.

The targeted sites included terrorist hubs in Muzaffarabad, Kotli, Gulpur, Bhimber, Sialkot, Chak Amru, and Ahmedpur East, all known for planning and directing attacks against India. The operation has been hailed as a significant blow to terrorist networks, with sources indicating that top JeM and LeT leaders were among those neutralized.

Pakistan has yet to officially acknowledge the strikes, though posts on X from accounts aligned with Pakistan's military media wing claimed civilian casualties, a claim unsupported by credible evidence and dismissed by Indian officials as propaganda. The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged both nations to exercise "maximum military restraint" to avoid escalation, while the U.S. expressed close monitoring of the situation.

"Operation Sindoor demonstrates India's resolve to pursue and punish terrorists and their backers, no matter where they hide," said a senior defense official. The operation has drawn widespread support domestically, with political leaders across party lines, including Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, lauding the armed forces' precision and bravery.

As tensions between India and Pakistan remain high, the international community continues to call for de-escalation. India's Ministry of Defence is set to provide a detailed briefing on the operation later today, as the nation stands united in its fight against terrorism.
