FAR ROCKAWAY, N.Y. — Authorities are intensifying their search for a gunman who opened fire on a 22-year-old man in a brazen daylight attack in Queens, police confirmed Thursday.
The shooting occurred just before 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday in front of an apartment building on Cornaga Avenue in Far Rockaway. Under bright sunlight, the suspect unleashed a barrage of bullets, striking the victim multiple times, according to the NYPD.
The victim, whose identity has not been released, was rushed to a local hospital. His condition remains undisclosed as the investigation continues. Police have not yet identified a motive for the seemingly random attack, and no arrests have been made.
The suspect fled the scene, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. The NYPD has increased patrols in the area as the search for the gunman continues.
Residents of the typically quiet Far Rockaway neighborhood expressed shock at the violence. “This is a wake-up call,” said one local, who wished to remain anonymous. “You don’t expect this in broad daylight.”
Police are reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses to piece together the events leading up to the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hotline.
