SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Regular unleaded gasoline was selling for $5.09 a gallon Thursday at the corner of Scottsdale Road and Osborn Road, a price that sits above both the Scottsdale-area average and the statewide figure reported by AAA. Diesel is selling for $6.49 at the same location.
The $5.09 pump price is about 11 cents higher than AAA’s latest Scottsdale metro average of roughly $4.98 a gallon and about 31 cents above Arizona’s statewide regular average of $4.78. It is more than 60 cents above the national average of $4.48. Nearby stations in Scottsdale were posting lower numbers Thursday, including some Shell and warehouse-club locations in the mid-$4 range.
Arizona fuel prices have climbed in recent weeks. The state average for regular is up from about $4.66 a week earlier and well above the $3.58 recorded a year ago. Diesel has set record highs near $6.43 statewide, adding pressure on trucking and delivery costs that can feed into retail gasoline prices. Analysts point to refinery maintenance, transportation costs from California and Texas pipelines, and lingering tightness in global crude markets. Arizona also uses a cleaner-burning summer blend in Maricopa County, which typically costs more to produce.
The Scottsdale Road and Osborn Road intersection sits in a high-traffic stretch of south-central Scottsdale, where branded stations often charge a premium over warehouse clubs and discount independents a few miles away.
