AUSTIN, Texas — A devastating car crash claimed the lives of five individuals late Thursday night in Texas, authorities confirmed. The incident, which involved multiple vehicles including a semi-truck, occurred around 11:23 p.m. on March 13, 2025, along the 12,900 block of North Interstate Highway 35 southbound in Austin, near the Parmer Lane area.

According to Captain Krista Stedman, Public Information Officer for Austin-Travis County EMS, emergency crews arrived to a chaotic scene spanning approximately a tenth of a mile. The collision involved a total of 17 vehicles, with responders finding multiple patients trapped inside their cars. Among the deceased were three adults, one child, and one infant, all pronounced dead at the scene. Eleven others were transported to local hospitals, including at least four adults with life-threatening injuries. The identities of the victims have not yet been released as officials work to notify next of kin.

“This incident was incredibly complex and required seamless coordination among our emergency response teams,” Stedman said. “Without the collaboration of our partners, managing this scene would have been far more challenging.”

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by local authorities, including the Austin Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety. Preliminary reports suggest that the involvement of a semi-truck may have contributed to the severity of the pileup, though details about what initiated the chain reaction are still unclear. Roads in the area, including portions of I-35 near Parmer Lane, remained closed into the early hours of Friday, March 14, 2025, as crews worked to clear the wreckage and investigate the circumstances.
