Pittsburgh, PA – In a comprehensive update released Friday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) disclosed the staggering scope of its probe into Thomas Crooks, the 20-year-old gunman who attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, 2024. The investigation, involving more than 480 FBI personnel, has concluded that Crooks acted entirely alone, with no evidence of accomplices, leaked intentions, or significant interactions that could have foreshadowed the attack.

According to the FBI's findings, Crooks maintained limited online and in-person engagements in the lead-up to the incident. Agents determined that he meticulously planned and executed the assault without confiding in anyone or sharing his motives publicly or privately. The scale of the investigative effort underscores the FBI's commitment to unraveling every facet of the lone actor's preparations:

  • Interviews and Tips: Over 1,000 interviews were conducted with associates, witnesses, and others potentially connected to Crooks. The bureau also processed more than 2,000 public tips submitted via hotlines and online portals.

  • Digital Forensics: Investigators analyzed data from 13 seized electronic devices, reviewing nearly 500,000 digital files. This included scrutiny of over 20 online accounts across social media platforms and forums, as well as an additional 25 accounts tied to broader online activity.

  • Multimedia and Financial Review: Hundreds of hours of video footage—from security cameras, bystander recordings, and other sources—were collected, processed, and synchronized for timeline reconstruction. Financial transactions from 10 separate accounts were examined for patterns or anomalies.

FBI officials emphasized that despite the exhaustive review, no indications emerged of coordinated planning, external influence, or prior warnings. "Thomas Crooks operated in isolation," an agency spokesperson stated. "His limited interactions provided no actionable intelligence to prevent the attack, and he did not disclose his intent to any individual."

The investigation's breadth reflects the high-profile nature of the case, which left Trump grazed by a bullet, one rally attendee dead, and two others critically injured. Crooks was killed by Secret Service snipers moments after opening fire from a rooftop position. As the FBI closes this chapter, questions linger about lone-wolf threats in an increasingly digital age. Authorities have pledged ongoing vigilance, with the full report expected to inform future security protocols for political events. 17GEN4.com
