Updated: Jun 24

_________

the FBI conducted a raid on a home associated with Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao on the morning of June 20, 2024. The raid was part of a larger operation that included three other properties in Oakland. FBI agents served warrants at Thao's residence on Maiden Lane in the city's Lincoln Highlands neighborhood around 5:30 a.m. As of 7:30 a.m., agents were still present at the location. The FBI has confirmed that it is conducting "court-authorized law enforcement activity" but has not provided further details. Mayor Thao was supposed to appear at an event on the morning of the raid but canceled. The investigation comes two days after the Alameda County Registrar of Voters announced that there were enough signatures on a petition to recall Thao from office to move the process forward. The reasons for the raid and the specific nature of the investigation have not been disclosed by the FBI or Mayor Thao's office.
