Los Angeles, CA – February 25, 2026 – Federal agents from the FBI conducted coordinated searches Wednesday morning at the private residence of Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Superintendent Alberto Carvalho and at the district's downtown headquarters, marking a significant development in an ongoing federal investigation.

According to multiple sources, including confirmations from the FBI and the U.S. Attorney's Office in Los Angeles, agents arrived at Carvalho's modest home in the San Pedro neighborhood—located approximately 20 miles south of downtown Los Angeles—early in the day. Television footage captured FBI personnel in branded shirts and jackets present at the property as part of executing court-authorized search warrants.

Simultaneously, searches were underway at LAUSD headquarters, though no visible federal activity was reported outside the building by mid-morning. The FBI also confirmed a related search at an additional location in Miami, tied to Carvalho's prior tenure.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney's Office stated that the actions were carried out pursuant to judicially approved warrants, but the supporting affidavits remain sealed by the court, preventing the release of further details on the nature of the probe or specific allegations. No arrests have been reported in connection with the searches.

Carvalho, who has led the nation's second-largest school district since February 2022, previously served as superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools in Florida from 2008 to 2021. During his time in Miami, he was credited with boosting graduation rates and academic performance in one of the country's largest districts.

The LAUSD, which serves hundreds of thousands of students across Los Angeles, has not issued an immediate public statement on the matter. The investigation's focus appears to center on Carvalho personally, according to anonymous law enforcement sources cited by local media.

Details remain limited as authorities continue their work, and the full scope of the inquiry is not yet public. The event has drawn swift attention amid the district's ongoing challenges and Carvalho's high-profile leadership role.

This is a developing story...
