Two suspects were apprehended at a Wendy's drive-thru on Thursday, September 4, 2025, mere moments after allegedly stealing $2,000 worth of clothing from a nearby T.J. Maxx store. The dramatic arrest unfolded in broad daylight, just across the street from the crime scene, as local police moved quickly to nab the suspected thieves.
According to authorities, the pair entered the T.J. Maxx location at approximately 2:30 p.m., where they reportedly stuffed bags with high-value clothing items before fleeing the store. Store employees promptly alerted law enforcement, providing detailed descriptions of the suspects and their vehicle. Within minutes, police spotted the suspects’ car in the drive-thru line at the Wendy's restaurant directly across the street, a bold move that led to their swift capture.Officers approached the vehicle, detaining the two individuals without incident. A search of the car allegedly uncovered the stolen merchandise, valued at $2,000, stuffed into bags in the backseat. The suspects, whose identities have not yet been released, now face charges of grand larceny and are being held at the county jail pending arraignment."This was a brazen act, but thanks to the quick response of our officers and the vigilance of store staff, we were able to apprehend the suspects before they could get far," said Police Chief Maria Thompson in a statement.T.J. Maxx management declined to comment on the incident, citing company policy, but employees at the scene expressed relief at the arrests. The incident serves as a reminder of the challenges retailers face with shoplifting, which has seen a reported uptick in recent years. As the investigation continues, authorities are reviewing surveillance footage from both T.J. Maxx and Wendy's to build their case. The suspects are scheduled to appear in court later this week.
