FBI Investigates Targeted Terror Attack in Boulder, Colorado, Vows to Pursue All Leads

BOULDER, Colo. — The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is actively investigating a reported "targeted terror attack" in Boulder, Colorado, that occurred on June 1, 2025, according to FBI Director Kash Patel. FBI personnel are on the scene, working alongside local law enforcement to address the incident, which authorities are treating as both an act of terror and targeted violence. Several individuals were injured in the attack, prompting a swift and comprehensive response from federal and local agencies.

In a statement posted to social media, Director Patel emphasized the gravity of the situation: "Our agents and local law enforcement are on the scene already, and we will share updates as more information becomes available." He further underscored the FBI's commitment, stating, "All of the necessary assets will be dedicated to this investigation." The agency has not yet released specific details regarding the nature of the attack, the number of victims, or potential suspects, but officials have confirmed that the incident took place in the vicinity of Pearl Street Mall, a popular pedestrian area in downtown Boulder. The area around 13th and Pearl streets has been evacuated as a precaution.

The FBI is urging the public to come forward with any information that could assist in the investigation. "If you have any investigative tips, please contact the FBI," Director Patel said, encouraging community members to submit leads via the FBI's tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI or online at www.fbi.gov. In a stern warning to potential accomplices, he added, "If you aided or abetted this attack, we will find you. You cannot hide."

Local law enforcement, including the Boulder Police Department, is collaborating closely with the FBI to secure the area and gather evidence. The investigation remains in its early stages, and authorities have yet to identify a motive or confirm whether any suspects are in custody. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and other federal partners are also providing support to ensure a thorough response.

This incident comes amid a heightened threat environment in the United States, as outlined in DHS's 2025 Homeland Threat Assessment, which noted that lone offenders and small groups motivated by ideological beliefs or personal grievances continue to pose a persistent risk. The FBI and its partners are leveraging all available resources, including the Joint Terrorism Task Force, to address this threat and bring those responsible to justice.

Residents are asked to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement, FBI Field Offices, or fusion centers. Updates will be provided as the investigation progresses and more information becomes available.
