June 1, 2025 — PHOENIX, AZ — U.S. Representative Andy Biggs (R-AZ) has publicly criticized SignalSafe, a new mobile application that allows users to anonymously report Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity on a real-time map, accusing its creators of potentially "aiding and abetting illegal conduct." In a statement released on April 3, 2025, Biggs expressed alarm over the app’s purpose and urged federal law enforcement to take action.

According to a report by AZCentral, Biggs, a staunch advocate for strict immigration enforcement, called on the FBI and the U.S. Attorney General to "find" the creators of SignalSafe, which enables users to share locations of ICE and Homeland Security vehicles and officials. "This app undermines the rule of law by facilitating efforts to evade immigration enforcement," Biggs said in a press release from his office, as quoted by Ground News. "The anonymity and crowd-sourced nature of SignalSafe raises serious concerns about its potential to obstruct lawful ICE operations and protect illegal activity."

Biggs’ comments come amid a broader debate over immigration enforcement under the current administration, with ICE reporting 956 arrests in a single day in late January, the highest daily total in recent years, per NBC News. The congressman, known for his hardline stance on border security, has a history of challenging policies and tools perceived to hinder ICE’s mission. In 2021, he sent a letter to then-DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, demanding answers for limiting ICE’s ability to enforce immigration laws, according to his official website, biggs.house.gov.

Critics of Biggs’ stance, cited by Newsweek, argue that SignalSafe serves as a resource for immigrant communities, providing awareness of public safety activities without directly interfering with law enforcement. The app’s developers told Newsweek on April 15, 2025, that “obstructing operations or leaking unannounced or future activities is strictly prohibited on our platform.” Nonetheless, Biggs has doubled down, suggesting in a Reddit post by u/ArizonaRepublic on April 4, 2025, that the app’s very existence could embolden illegal immigration and compromise national security.

No legislation or formal investigation targeting SignalSafe has been announced as of June 1, 2025. Biggs’ office did not respond to requests for further comment, but his prior actions—such as introducing the State Immigration Enforcement Act in 2022 to empower states to enforce federal immigration laws, per Fox News—underscore his commitment to robust border control.
