China is reportedly preparing a colossal military fleet, including a vast array of civilian vessels, to invade Taiwan. This move comes amid a backdrop of increased military drills and political posturing by Beijing, signaling a potential shift in the region's geopolitical dynamics.
According to recent reports, China has been amassing a fleet of civilian ferries and cargo ships to supplement its military amphibious landing craft. This strategy, known as "military-civil fusion," underscores the close integration of China's private sector with its military and national security policies. The civilian vessels, including large roll-on, roll-off ferries, could dramatically increase the People's Liberation Army's (PLA) capacity to transport troops and equipment across the Taiwan Strait, potentially enabling the movement of up to 300,000 troops and their vehicles in about 10 days.
