DEDHAM, Mass. (December 30, 2025) — New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs, a key figure in the team's resurgent 13-3 season and playoff push, has been charged with felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery stemming from an alleged incident earlier this month.

Court records from Dedham District Court reveal the charges were filed Monday, connected to an event on December 2 in Dedham, Massachusetts. Reports indicate the allegations involve an altercation with a woman who had been employed as Diggs' personal chef, arising from a financial dispute over pay. The chef reportedly left her position following the incident.

Diggs, 32, has categorically denied the accusations through his attorney, David Meier, who described them as "unsubstantiated, uncorroborated, and were never investigated — because they did not occur." Meier added that the timing of the claims is tied to an unresolved employee-employer disagreement, stating, "Stefon looks forward to establishing the truth in a court of law."

The Patriots issued a statement expressing support for their star receiver: "The New England Patriots are aware of the accusations that have been made regarding Stefon Diggs. Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations. We support Stefon. We will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL as necessary."

The NFL confirmed it is aware of the matter and in contact with the team but offered no further comment.

Diggs' attorneys have sought to seal the police report, citing risks of widespread publicity tainting the case. An arraignment is scheduled for January 23, 2026 — two days before a potential AFC Championship game — though a request to postpone it to March is under consideration.

On the field, Diggs has been instrumental in the Patriots' success this season, leading the team with 82 receptions for 970 yards and four touchdowns as they clinched the AFC East. He is just 30 yards shy of his seventh career 1,000-yard season.

The allegations come amid a high-profile personal life for Diggs, who recently welcomed a child with rapper Cardi B.

The case remains ongoing, with Diggs not arrested in connection to the incident. The league has broad authority to review such matters under its personal conduct policy, potentially placing players on paid leave pending investigation. 17GEN4.com
