Jerusalem – The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) executed a series of "powerful strikes" across Gaza late Monday, targeting Hamas infrastructure in direct response to the group's breach of a fragile ceasefire agreement, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) announced.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the immediate military action following an urgent security assessment with top defense officials, including IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi and Defense Minister Israel Katz. The decision came just hours after Hamas militants fired rockets into southern Israel, shattering a truce that had been in place for less than 48 hours.

"The ceasefire was violated by Hamas in a blatant act of aggression," a PMO spokesperson stated. "The Prime Minister directed the IDF to respond with force to restore deterrence and protect Israeli civilians."IDF spokespersons confirmed that the airstrikes hit multiple Hamas military sites, including rocket launchers, weapon storage facilities, and command centers in northern and central Gaza. No civilian casualties were reported by Israeli authorities, though Palestinian health officials in Gaza claimed at least 12 injuries from the bombardment.

The strikes mark the latest escalation in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, which has seen intermittent ceasefires collapse amid mutual accusations of violations. Monday's rocket barrage from Gaza targeted communities near the border, causing minor damage but no injuries on the Israeli side.

Netanyahu, addressing the nation in a brief televised statement from his Jerusalem office, vowed unwavering resolve. "Israel will not tolerate attacks on its sovereignty," he said. "We extended our hand for peace, but Hamas chose terror. Our response will be swift and decisive."International reactions poured in swiftly. The United States reiterated its support for Israel's right to self-defense, with a State Department official calling on all parties to de-escalate. Egypt, a key mediator in past truce talks, expressed concern over the renewed violence and urged immediate dialogue.

As dawn broke over Gaza, plumes of smoke rose from strike zones, underscoring the precarious balance in the region. Israeli forces remain on high alert along the border, with residents in southern communities advised to stay near bomb shelters. The PMO emphasized that the operation was "precise and limited" but warned of further actions if provocations continue. This development comes amid broader regional tensions, with no immediate word on potential Hamas retaliation. 17GEN4.com
