DENVER — A bomb threat prompted a thorough search of United Airlines Flight 2408 at Denver International Airport on Sunday evening, forcing passengers to deplane before the aircraft could depart for Washington Dulles International Airport.

Authorities received the report prior to takeoff, halting the plane short of the runway around 6:15 p.m. MDT. Emergency responders, including teams with canines, swept the aircraft, passenger belongings, and luggage. No explosive device or credible threat was discovered, officials determined after the inspection.

Passengers were safely evacuated from the jet as part of standard protocol for such incidents. Social media reports described a prolonged delay, with some passengers noting they were instructed not to access overhead bins during the wait. Flight tracking data showed the aircraft grounded for several hours before ultimately departing for Dulles with only a minor delay.

The incident marks the second security scare involving a United Airlines flight in as many days. On Saturday, April 18, United Flight 2092 from Chicago O’Hare to New York’s LaGuardia Airport diverted to Pittsburgh International Airport after the crew reported a mysterious sequential beeping sound onboard. Pilots treated the noise as a potential bomb, declaring an emergency and diverting the Boeing 737 MAX. Passengers evacuated via emergency slides upon landing; bomb squads and K-9 units conducted a sweep, and no threat was found.

United Airlines described both events as precautionary responses to potential security concerns but has not released detailed statements confirming the precise nature of the threats. The FBI and local law enforcement assisted in the Pittsburgh case, and similar coordination is expected in Denver, though no arrests or specific suspect details have been made public.

Aviation security experts note that bomb threats, whether hoaxes or otherwise, trigger immediate and rigorous protocols under FAA and TSA guidelines to ensure passenger safety. False reports can lead to significant disruptions, including delays, diversions, and resource-intensive searches.

As of late Sunday, Flight 2408 was en route to Dulles without further incident. United Airlines has not commented publicly on any connection between the two events or ongoing investigations. Travelers are advised to check with the airline for the latest flight status amid heightened scrutiny. This developing story is being monitored for any updates from federal authorities.
