Explosion Near Baltimore Home Depot Prompts Multi-Agency Investigation
BALTIMORE, MD — April 28, 2025 — Federal and local authorities are actively investigating an explosion that occurred near a Home Depot in Southeast Baltimore on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at approximately 2 p.m. The incident, reported in the 6300 block of Eastern Avenue, involved an unidentified male detonating an unspecified device near other individuals, according to the Baltimore Police Department (BPD). No injuries have been reported, and the suspect remains at large as the investigation continues.
The BPD Bomb Squad, arson investigators, and crime lab technicians, alongside the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) bomb technicians and the Baltimore City Fire Department, responded to the scene. The FBI’s Baltimore Field Office has also confirmed its awareness of the incident and is coordinating with law enforcement partners. The explosion occurred near a Wendy’s and the Eastern Avenue entrance to the Home Depot, causing temporary disruptions, including a brief closure of the Wendy’s restaurant, which reopened around 7 p.m. The Home Depot remained operational.
Roshade, the manager of the nearby Wendy’s, described the scene as “chaotic” and noted that police requested security footage from the restaurant. The footage reportedly shows the suspect in the parking lot and near the drive-thru before fleeing the area. “My staff is nervous, and they don’t feel safe,” Roshade told WJZ, expressing concerns about the suspect potentially returning.
Authorities have not disclosed details about the nature of the device or the motive behind the incident. Over police radio, units were instructed to refrain from broadcasting near the Home Depot until the bomb squad arrived, indicating the seriousness of the response. The ATF, which specializes in explosives and arson investigations, is working closely with BPD’s forensics team to collect evidence and identify the suspect.
