All-Clear Issued After Hoax Bomb Threat Prompts Response in Queen Creek Neighborhood

QUEEN CREEK, Ariz. — Authorities gave the all-clear Monday morning after investigating a reported bomb threat in a residential area of Queen Creek, which officials later determined to be a hoax stemming from a swatting incident.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) responded to reports of a potential bomb threat near 25900 South 178th Way, close to the intersection of San Tan Boulevard and Recker Road. Sgt. Joaquin Enriquez alerted the public via social media shortly after the call came in, urging residents to avoid southbound San Tan Boulevard and Mews Road between Recker Road and 181st Street while deputies secured the scene.

According to multiple reports, the initial call—received by Mesa police and transferred to MCSO since the location falls in a county island—included claims of up to 20 explosive devices inside a home. Deputies treated the threat seriously, deploying resources to sweep the area.

Less than an hour later, MCSO confirmed no explosives were found and declared the situation resolved. On-site deputies described the incident as a hoax, with some sources indicating it may be linked to a broader pattern of swatting calls nationwide.

No injuries were reported, and traffic restrictions were lifted following the all-clear.Swatting, the act of making false emergency reports to provoke a heavy police response, remains a serious crime that diverts critical resources from genuine threats. MCSO officials said more details would be released as the investigation into the caller continues.

Local residents expressed relief on social media, though the brief disruption highlighted ongoing concerns about hoax threats in the rapidly growing southeast Valley community.
